The film was written and directed by Stuart Urban, and commissioned to mark the tenth anniversary of the Falklands War. The film was closely based on the historical record, and all of the major incidents portrayed were drawn from contemporary accounts by those who took part. Filming took place on the Falkland Islands and at Ealing Studios. Urban is a fluent Spanish-speaker, and plays an uncredited role as the Argentine radio operator.。为提高《小戏骨》的演出质量，节目组始终怀着向老艺术家致敬的心态认真学习，努力让小演员在形似的同时做到神似。开拍前，他们会跟小演员反复讲剧情背景，讲现实意义。拍《小戏骨：焦裕禄》这出戏时，一些小孩子会觉得“我生活这么好为什么还要学焦裕禄？”节目组就会耐心地引导小演员：每个人都应该去关爱社会、关爱人民，奉献精神永不过时。。
